Top 10 SEO plugins for WordPress

Optimizing the SEO of your WordPress site is something not to be taken lightly. Fortunately, one of the advantages of WordPress is the incredible number of plugins available, both free and paid. However, given this abundance of solutions, which plugins should you choose for your site?

Are SEO plugins enough for good SEO?

Unfortunately, the answer is no! The aim here is solely to help you choose the best SEO plugins for WordPress. While this can help you improve various aspects of SEO, the optimization process is more complex than just installing a few extensions.

So it’s a good idea to get to know the basics of SEO by familiarizing yourself with the many criteria involved. However, the advantage of WordPress is that it’s very blog-oriented, and as we (almost) all know, content is ROI if it’s qualitative and targets the right keywords! Even if you start out with a certain advantage with a site on WordPress, you should know that it’s important to have the right methods to learn SEO by reading some of these books, for example.

Fortunately, WordPress is considered one of the best CMS out there, yet it’s still easy to use. With perseverance, you’ll soon learn how to optimize your site and attract traffic.

To return to our subject, there are a multitude of SEO extensions that can be used to optimize your site.

1. Rank Math SEO

Constantly optimizing your posts can sometimes consume more time than writing the content itself. If you’ve always thought you could do more on the SEO front, but you’re short of time, Rank Math SEO is for you. Its multitude of smart features puts previously unattainable SEO capabilities in your hands. With just a few clicks, intelligent automation functions give you the power of an entire SEO team. Rank Math SEO is a game-changing SEO plugin with a thoughtful design, powerful features, and years of development by the MyThemeShop team. It will level the SEO playing field in your favor and help you increase traffic.

Key features:

  • Configuration wizard (easy to follow)
  • Integrated Rich Snippets
  • Unlimited keyword optimization
  • Integration with Google Search Console
  • Google keyword ranking
  • Google Analytics integration
  • Pre-selected optimal parameters
  • Integrated LSI keyword tool
  • Overlay icons on social images
  • Intelligent redirect manager
  • Local business listings, etc.

2. Yoast SEO

With over 5 million downloads and thousands of positive reviews, Yoast SEO is without doubt one of the best WordPress SEO plugins available today. This extension enables you to perform numerous on-site technical optimizations to improve your website’s SEO. It has a wide range of features that make it an all-in-one plugin. A premium version is also available, although the free version is more than sufficient. You can find out how to configure it in this WPMarmite article.

Main features:

  • Analysis of your content to optimize it for your keywords (keyword density, appearance in tags, text length…)
  • Title and Meta description tag management
  • Page analysis: this feature checks tiny things like message length, the presence of a meta-description and whether it contains the targeted keyword, etc.
  • Sitemap.xml file generation
  • Allows you to modify your robots.txt and .htaccess files.
  • Insert breadcrumb trail.
  • Integration with social networks
  • Multi-site compatibility

3. All in One SEO Pack

A competitor to Yoast SEO, this is a little less comprehensive than Yoast if you want to fine-tune your site. However, it’s ideal for beginners or those who don’t want to take on too much. The advantage is that it works automatically, so you don’t need to touch it too much.

3. All in One SEO Pack

A competitor to Yoast SEO, this is a little less comprehensive than Yoast if you want to fine-tune your site. However, it’s ideal for beginners or those who don’t want to take on too much. Indeed, the advantage is that it works automatically and you won’t need to touch the settings too much for it to work properly.

Main features :

  • Automatic management of Title and Meta description tags
  • Sitemap.xml file generation
  • Google AMP support
  • Google Analytics integration
  • Content optimization for SEO
  • Notifies search engines of modifications
  • API available for developers
  • Prevents duplicate content

4. SEOPress

SEO Press is an SEO plugin for WordPress. It’s lightweight with plenty of features and has some very established names like Yoast to compete with. SEO Press is simple to use because it can be added directly from the WordPress directory, and that’s what I like best. I also like all the SEO suggestions to rank the website in search engines faster. Plus, all titles and posts can be managed.

Main features :

  • Set up your site quickly with the installation wizard.
  • Unlimited keyword content analysis to help you create search engine optimized content.
  • Preview on desktop and mobile to see how your article looks on Google.
  • Preview on Twitter and Facebook Social to see how your article looks on social media to increase conversions.
  • Titles (dynamic: custom fields, taxonomy terms…).
  • Meta description (also with dynamic variables).
  • Open Graph and Twitter cards (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, WhatsApp, etc.) to improve sharing on social media.

5. WP Rocket

Even if site speed isn’t a direct factor in your SEO, it can help prevent a bad bounce rate on your site. Who wants to stay on a slow site?

WP Rocket is a cache optimization plugin that boosts your site’s performance with your server. Available only in premium, it does a much better job than its other free competitors and is more than worth the investment if your site is your bread and butter.

Main features :

  • Page caching
  • Cache preloading
  • Static file compression
  • Progressive image loading
  • Browser caching
  • Database optimization

6. Google XML Sitemaps

As its name suggests, Google XML Sitemaps allows you to generate a sitemap for your site, enabling search engine spiders to better crawl your site. This makes it possible to index your website faster by sending a push to the search engines. If you install this plugin, however, be careful to disable the Yoast SEO one (less optimized for my taste), which may duplicate it.

Main features :

  • Generates a complete sitemap of your site
  • Notifies search engines
  • Possibility of setting the types of pages you wish to integrate or not

7. All in One Schema.org Rich Snippets

Rich snippets improve the way your publication appears in search results by providing more information about the content. Rich snippets are interactive elements that can display images, star ratings, prices and more. These are therefore very useful features for highlighting your pages on Google results.

Main features :

  • Generate rich snippets such as reviews, authors, events, products, recipes, applications or videos.

8. Redirect

Well, they didn’t go too far with the name on this one. Redirection is an extension that does a very good job of managing your 301 redirects. In particular, it avoids 404 errors, which are penalizing, but also redirects to new pages. Indispensable for redistributing your site’s “juice” and having total control over your internal meshing.
Main features :
404 error monitoring
Customized transient redirects
Automatic addition of 301 redirects when the URL of an article is modified.
Redirect history.

9. Broken Link Checker

Broken Link Checker ‘s main function is to inform you by e-mail notification or via your dashboard as soon as this plugin finds a broken link. Once the broken link has been detected, you’ll be able to repair it directly via the interface.

Main features:

  • Detects broken links, missing images and redirects.
  • Notifications on the Dashboard or by e-mail
  • Links can be modified directly from the interface.

10. Really Simple SSL

Another format that will become standard if you monetize your website. Indeed, Google strongly encourages us to switch our sites to HTTPS (secure connection) so as not to be penalized in the future. To switch to HTTPS, I recommend you follow this excellent article by WP Marmite. For example, you’ll need to obtain an SSL certificate, which is generally available free of charge from hosting providers. Then Really Simple SSL will do all the rest of the work for you, automatically detecting your server and configuring your website in HTTPS.

Main features :

  • The plugin handles most of the problems WordPress can encounter with SSL
  • All requests are redirected to HTTPS via internal redirection or .htaccess
  • Site URL and home URL are replaced by HTTPQ
  • Your site appears as “Secure” in all browsers

It’s a plugin developed by Kevin Richard, an SEO consultant who also created the excellent SEObserver tool. WP Backlinks is a freemium plugin that lets you analyze your new backlinks directly from your WordPress dashboard. To do this, the tool uses Majestic’s resources, whereas data is usually very limited without a subscription. A premium version at just $20/month lets you monitor new backlinks from 3 of your competitors.

Main features:

  • Track new backlinks directly from the WordPress dashboard..
  • Monitor your competitors’ new backlinks (paid)

So here are most of the extensions I use and recommend optimizing SEO on WordPress. Please note, however, that this list is not exhaustive and that everyone has their own preferences. Be careful, however, not to have too many plugins installed that could duplicate each other, so as not to harm your site’s performance.
